The Importance of Customer Reviews For Your Business and How to Get Great Reviews

We know that without our customers, we’d be lost. They’re our most valuable resource and its important to value their opinions and their feedback. The reviews your customers leave on various mediums are important for your business – they can guide you into making the right decisions about what your customers want, and they influence others into deciding whether or not to purchase your product or service. The average person reads between 4-6 reviews before making a decision about a business.

Most people think of Yelp, Google, Facebook, and other third-party websites when they think of reviews, but there are other forms of customer feedback that should be important to remember for your business as well. Depending on your type and form of business, you can also gather your customers’ thoughts through feedback surveys and interviews. Reaching out to previous clients and offering to answer questions etc., and ending with a request for feedback or a review can also be a useful method.

Why are Customer Reviews Important?

Over 26,000 Yelp reviews per minute, that means at any moment someone could be sharing negative or positive opinions about your business that could make or break you. A huge portion of the world is on social media, meaning that those reviews can be read and shared with thousands within a matter of minutes. It can be scary to think of the harm that a negative review can do to your business, however, no reviews at all can be just, or sometimes, more harmful.

There are two main reasons why you should ensure your customers leave reviews, especially online.

Reviews Build Your Reputation – 72% of people say excellent online reviews make them trust a business more. Reading an abundance of excellent reviews about a business usually means that that particular company is trying their best to make their customers happy. Every review you receive, positive or not, is laying a path to potential customers and letting them know what they can expect for you.

Reviews Strengthen Your Credibility – 90% of people read a business’ reviews before visiting their business and 88% of people trust online reviews as much as they do recommendations from people they know. A business without any reviews can sometimes raise red flags about the legitimacy of your business.

How Can You Get Great Reviews for My Business?

The most important thing you can do to get good reviews is to treat your customers like them, and their happiness is the most important thing for your business. This will directly rub off on the reviews they leave on your social media etc. You may notice, however, that sometimes customers are more inclined to seek out a page to leave a review only when they’ve had a less than pleasing experience.

Things you can do to influence your customers into leaving positive reviews are to directly ask them to review, include a link to various review pages in your email newsletters, or offer a discount for those on their next visit for those who leave a review.

We’d like to ensure you remember that, with more reviews comes more responsibility. Always monitor every site that may include reviews about your business and respond to both the positive, and especially the negative (always as calmly as possible), when you can.
